Bitcoin Plunges Below $105k, Liquidations Top $1B, Gold Hits All-Time High As “Extreme Fear” Grips Markets

Bitcoin plunged below $105K and gold soared to another all-time high (ATH) as “extreme fear” grips the crypto market. The sell-off followed emerging loan issues at several US regional banks, raising concerns of broader systemic risks. US regional lenders Zions Bancorp and Western Alliance Bancorp disclosed that they were victims of fraud on loans to funds that invest in distressed commercial mortgages. This followed a loan blowup at subprime auto lender Tricolor Holdings and the collapse of First Brands Group, which owed over $10 billion to some of the biggest Wall Street banks. Peter Schiff says US President Donald Trump has pulled off the biggest crypto rug pull ever after he announced that certain altcoins will be added to the strategic crypto reserve on Sunday amid a 9% crypto market crash. Schiff accused Trump of orchestrating a “pump and dump scheme” in a March 3 X post , and has now called for Congress to investigate the President and those close to him for their alleged role in the recent volatility. That’s after prices, especially of all of the cryptos mentioned in Trump’s posts on Sunday including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Cardano (ADA), Solana (SOL) and XRP, all soared. The Bitcoin price edged up a fraction of a percent in the last 24 hours to trade at $68,823 as of 03:29 a.m. EST on trading volume that surged 42% to $33.6 billion. This comes after Polymarket odds of a Trump victory in tomorrow’s US election plunged 9% in the past week. They have since recovered slightly, with the Republican’s chances rising by 3% in the last 6 hours to stand at 57% as of 3:17 a.m. EST. The Bitcoin price briefly dipped below $69,000, which prompted big liquidations in the crypto market, hitting $350 million across $259.7 million long bets and $90.1 million short bets. Analysts have speculated that Bitcoin could rally if Trump wins after he promised to be ”crypto president” if he is elected. Ethereum drops below $3k as liquidations hit $320 million

Ethereum price has dropped below $3,000, hitting lows of $2,942 on Coinbase. The decline in the price of Ethereum comes as spot ETH ETFs saw a tepid debut in Hong Kong. Liquidations hit $320 across the crypto market, with over $96 million in ETH (over $78 million of it in liquidated longs). Ethereum has declined to below $3,000 again as the broader crypto market reels from downside pressure. As Bitcoin retested prices near $60,000 on Tuesday, ETH price moved lower and broke under the psychological $3k level. On crypto exchange Bitstamp, ETH/USD reached lows of $2,945 while the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap’s value revisited $2,942 on US-based exchange Coinbase.
