Polymarket Eyes Funding At $10B Valuation, US Relaunch, As Kalshi Nears Fundraising At $5B

Polymarket is weighing new financing at a valuation as high as $10 billion alongside plans for a relaunch in the US, while competitor Kalshi is nearing a $5 billion fundraising. According to a report by Business Insider that cited sources familiar with the matter,  Polymarket has considered one offer that would value the company at $9 billion, and another that “offered a term sheet valuing Polymarket as high as $10 billion.” That would be a huge jump in valuation for the company, which raised funding at a $1 billion valuation early in the summer, the article said. Polymarket raised $200 million in June, led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, the venture firm that was an early backer of projects such as OpenAI, Paxos and Palantir. Kiln earns $17m in funding round for APAC development

Enterprise-grade staking platform Kiln announced the closing of a $17 million funding round to help expand its global footprint. Per a press release, other entities participating in the funding round included IOSG Ventures, a first-check crypto fund investing firm for web3, Wintermute Ventures, KXVC, and LBank. Kiln plans to use funds raised in the company’s global expansion, with efforts to grow its Asian–Pacific division through the opening of a headquarters in Singapore in the first quarter of 2024, as well as further product development to include additional reward mechanisms in defi. Boxing champion throws his weight behind NFTs that aim to raise funds for Ukraine

Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is helping launch a new NFT collection to raise money for Ukraine — and blockchain networks are being urged to get involved. A new nonfungible token collection is aiming to give a substantial contribution to a charitable foundation supporting Ukrainians following Russia's invasion. Blockasset says the NFT release has been organized in collaboration with world heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk, who is from Ukraine himself. The sale comes ahead of Usyk's world title defence against Anthony Joshua on August 20. There are 2,000 one-of-one NFTs of unique artwork, and they feature quirky designs by the world-renowned artist Dosbrak — chronicling some of the key moments from the boxer's undefeated professional career. A recent report from Messari emphasized that crypto funding took a “massive hit” in 2022. The analytics platform noted that the capital inflows shrunk from $8 billion to $1.4 billion last year. In 2022, a total of 112 funding rounds happened, noting an outright dip from 2021’s 287. Data suggests that over the past 30 days, funds have flown into CeFi-related projects. Blockchain VC funding surpasses 2021 total despite declining since May

After a tumultuous year in crypto, investors are now more selective with their funding. It’s been a tough year for crypto, and venture capital activity confirms it. The collapse of FTX in November was the latest and most shocking in a series of closures of key market players this year — including Celsius, Voyager and BlockFi — that have shaken investor sentiment and wiped out $1.5 trillion in market capitalization from cryptocurrency space. Blockchain Venture Capital funding has been on a downward slope since May 2022, and November was no different, with inflows declining even further. However, the total capital inflows for 2022 have surpassed 2021 by almost $6 billion.
